Once considered a sector of back-breaking labor with minimal returns, it is now emerging as a beacon of opportunity, especially for the continent’s youth. In Kenya, young people make up 84% of the country’s unemployed population and many lack viable opportunities for work, but 25-year-old Evyline has found a rewarding opportunity in farming. Evyline lives in Tharaka Nithi, a rural, semi-arid region of Kenya that is routinely impacted by climate extremes, but thanks to the power of regenerative agriculture and with support from Farm Africa, she has helped to transform farming practices and resilience to climate change in her community.

Unlocking Youth Potential in Agribusiness through Domestication of Africa Agribusiness Youth Strategy (AAYS)

Africa is considered the youngest continent in the world, with 60% of its population aged below 25. This demographic holds great potential for transforming the agricultural and agrifood sector. The agribusiness sector is projected to be a USD1 trillion industry by 2030, offering huge employment and business development opportunities for young people. With increasing population growth, urbanization, and rising food demand, engaging youth in the agrifood system is critical to averting a ticking time bomb of youth uprising, insecurity, and internal resource conflict.
