Welcome to this 7-part video series that is excerpted from Oregon State University’s Online Permaculture Design Certificate Course:
Keyline® in the AR Sandbox

The Keyline® Plan is a method of land design for soil and water conservation developed by Australian farmer and engineer P.A. Yeomans in the 1950s, and practiced widely throughout Australia ever since. My training in this design system came from Keyline® design’s modern day emissary, Darren J. Doherty of the Regrarians (www.regrarians.org).

This series is my best attempt to present a simple introduction to the design system, beginning with the very basics: understanding landforms to determine the potentials that each landscape possesses. There are a lot more design layers to this system then what is presented in this 7-part series, so please treat this as an introduction, and not a comprehensive explanation. I also refer to other videos within this series that are part of Oregon State’s Online Permaculture Design Certificate Course and are not publically available, so if you want more depth in this topic and others, please visit our course offerings: https://www.permaculturerising.com/pe… Andrew Millison’s Podcast: www.earthrepairradio.com

The Permaculture Principles guide our design decisions and formulate the structure of our Permaculture system. We are using David Holmgren’s 12 principle version which are used to help guide every Permaculture design.

Join Andrew Millison in 2013 as he travels back to Arizona and revisits several Permaculture projects installed in the late 1990’s to see how they are working and growing. We go from the arid forest in Prescott at 5300′, down to the desert grasslands of Arcosanti at 3500′, then down to the Sonoran Desert in Tucson at 2600′. Come along for the ride! Permaculture seed wizard Don Tipping takes us on a 10 minute animated tour of the epic Seven Seeds Farm in the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon, USA. The farm was designed using Permaculture Principles and Keyline patterning. We follow the water system from top to bottom, and then the amazing downstream effects are revealed. This video was produced by Andrew Millison as part of the course content for his online Permaculture Design Course and Advanced Design Practicum, taught through the Horticulture department at Oregon State University. Permaculture Elder Tom Ward takes us on a 10 minute animated tour of Wolf Gulch Farm in Southern Oregon, USA. It was designed using Permaculture principles and laid out using Keyline patterning. Tom’s narrated journey explores water supply and storage, soil building, wind and air drainage, cropping, and an enlightened perspective on the watershed and the future of farming in harmony with natural forces.
