The Young Wine Festival in Sandomierz is an annual meeting of grape wine enthusiasts with local winemakers, which is traditionally held on the third weekend of November. This year, 12 vineyards will participate in the festival. The holiday is the culmination of the year-round work of winemakers, their toil, care and attention to every little detail during the growing season. It is a perfect moment to get to know the heralds of future grape wines, the nature of which reflects the terroir of the Sandomierz region, its warm, loess and fertile soils and the specific microclimate of the region.

Traditionally, restaurateurs and hoteliers from Sandomierz and the surrounding area, as well as producers of local and traditional products, joined the cooperation. We have prepared for you a rich offer of young wines as well as special snacks and dedicated dishes, which will be served in 11 eating places.

The formula we propose to wander around the Old Town in Sandomierz and its outskirts is conducive to getting to know interesting places, interiors, products, and above all, the people who create them. A stroll through the charming streets of the Old Town, which hide wine secrets at every turn, will allow you to fully learn the history and atmosphere of the wine-growing industry in Sandomierz.

Modła Vineyard (1.07 ha), established in 2010, located in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski and in the village of Mychów on the Modła River. The largest plot slopes south with a 30-40% slope. The very good location of the vineyard allowed for planting mostly noble varieties of vitis vinifera: riesling, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, gewürztraminer, bouvier, pinot gris, pinot noir, blaufränkisch, zweigelt, merlot, cabernet sauvignon.
The 2015 yearbook is the first one launched for sale. The vineyard and winery use natural methods of viticulture and wine production.

Winnica Nad Jarem

Our plot happened unexpectedly – in 2008 we inherited the heirs of the fruit of the year with cherry, cherry and apple orchards. We made the decision very quickly to plant a vine there. Our establishing ourselves about acquiring allotment shares euphoria again with good positions and creating a stock market structure and establishing ourselves by rewriting laws relating to the wine business

We asked the precursor of Polish winemaking, Myśliwiec, for help in designing the vineyard and selecting settlements, and in April 2009 we planted white grape varieties: “Bianca”, “Hibernal” and “Muskat Odessa”.

Working in a vineyard is a stepping stone from the operator’s work and living in Kielce, as well as relaxation in the field of air services. The grapevines, however, grew at an express pace and, verifying the requirements, demanded the right pace. It was a stimulus for us to the next stage in the development process of our team. In the additional year we planted the varieties ‘Regent’, ‘Rondo’ and ‘Zweigelt’ – for red wine. At present, there is less than 2,400 vines on the 81-ares plot.

From the very beginning we wanted to have the hospitality of displaying the vine presentation. We enrolled in a course for beginner winemakers organized by the Podkarpacie Winemakers Association, and then, with the establishment of this association, we are connected with theoretical and practical knowledge – for the country. Theory is of great value, but the best results are when combined with practice – that is, in our case, the experience that we collect by pruning each plant. Despite the fact that there was a lot of work in the vineyard, we were able to see ourselves.

2012 was a turning point for us due to our first major contribution to the registration of a vineyard under the Agricultural Market. As part of the project, we also started the conversion of the buildings into a wine bar and, in the future, into a tasting room. After going through all the percussion procedures with the introduction of wine to the market, we started selling our product in May 2013. The wine adventure very quickly turned into our passion. In 2014, we decided that we did what we did, to work, to get it done, we are also on our side.

We are a family vineyard located on the Vistula escarpment in the Pieprzowe Mountains near Sandomierz. In the area of 1 hectare we grow 6 varieties of grapevines. The south-western slope, very good exposure and soil conditions (slate loess) give us almost optimal conditions for viticulture and wine production. The first vintage of our wines (2019) will be available soon.

Our location is unique. The vineyard is partly located in the Natura 2000 area. Moreover, in the immediate vicinity we have a nature reserve – Pieprzowe Mountains. All these are only 3 km from the Old Town of Sandomierz.

Our adventure with winemaking began completely by accident. In 2009, we spent the May weekend near Sandomierz, it was “love at first sight” 🙂 In the same year, we bought a plot in the Pieprzowe Mountains – a beautiful place on the Vistula River.

At the beginning, we planted fruit trees, but in summer the temperature was so high that the trees did not want to grow. In the end, we made the decision to create a vineyard. And so in 2015 we planted the first seedlings. The varieties we cultivate are Rondo, Regent, Leon Millot, Marechal Foch and Muscat Odesskij. Loess soil and slate create ideal conditions for the cultivation of vines.
In 2016, Kasia graduated from the annual Practical Study of Winemaking at the Podkarpacka Academy of Wine in Jasło conducted, among others by Roman Myśliwiec, a precursor and promoter of the reviving Polish winemaking. In the same year, we purchased another plot of 1.3 ha, on which we plan to plant more grapevines in 2019.

Our first wine was created in 2017 – only a dozen or so bottles, but joy and satisfaction are priceless! We are starting the construction of the processing plant this year. We’re going “at full speed”.

We have had contact with farm work from an early age – Justyna in Faliszowice helped her grandparents and parents in gardening, while Łukasz in the Bieszczady Mountains raised rabbits and helped with the harvest. A few years later, our paths crossed at the Agricultural Academy. After graduating, we started working in other professions, but all the time we helped my parents in the work in the orchard. We had our first contact with wine production in 2008. The vineyards we visited in South Africa, California, Italy and Hungary inspired us to create something new.

Our vineyard is located in Faliszowice and covers 2 hectares of fertile loess soils of the Kielce – Sandomierska Upland. Our vines are mainly varieties for white wines (riesling, siegerrebe, johaniter, seyval blanc, solaris, muskaris, odessa muscat) and red wines (regent and zweigelt). We perform all treatments with due diligence, care and commitment. This translates into the quality of our wines, which received a positive response from experts and were appreciated in national and international competitions.

Na Rozdrożu Vineyard is a place at the crossroads of two roads, from which the name comes from. It is located near Sandomierz, surrounded by picturesque loess hills. The story with wine in the background began in 2013, after planting the first 100 shrubs. The most emotions were associated with the production of the first wine, because, as you know, the beginnings can be difficult and raise some concerns … When we found out that we could do it, the idea came to plant the vine. Since then, the vineyard has started to develop and grow, and now we have 4,500 thousand vines on 1.1 ha, including 13 varieties, intended mainly for white wines.

The 2017 yearbook was the first that we introduced to the market. We have created a place next to the vineyard where everyone can visit, relax, talk about wine and its cultivation, and take advantage of tasting and buying the one that suits them best. Every year “Crossroads” takes on colors and charms with a unique atmosphere, which owes to the enormous work and heart put by the owners.

Płochocki Vineyard: the oldest professional vineyard in the region and the most awarded, currently with an area of 4.5 ha. In the cultivation of 20 varieties, both traditional vitis vinifera, such as Riesling, Pinot Noir or Zweigelt, and new resistant varieties, such as Seyval blanc, hibernal, Johaniter or Rondo. Every year, a dozen or so wine labels are created, the vast majority of which are awarded at various wine competitions. Wines created out of passion, directly by the owners of the vineyard, Basia and Marcin, who are fascinated by the tradition related to the production of wine in different countries – hence, among others, bringing the first original Georgian kvevr to Poland and starting the production of one of the wines using them.

The beginnings of the vineyard date back to 2006, when the first grapevines were planted, now the vineyard has reached the size of approx. 5 ha of plantings, with 65% share of white varieties.

Each year, a dozen or so types of wines are produced, varied both in terms of character and style, as well as dryness, which, after entering the official sale in 2009, are appreciated by both wine lovers and professionals in the wine industry. This is evidenced by the numerous medals won annually at various wine competitions, including international ones, the greatest achievement of which was winning the Grand Prix of the competition in Zielona Góra twice and the Grad Prix of the competition in Jasło in 2017. We also receive many positive opinions from people who drink our wines for pure pleasure, who often come to us from very distant places.

During the whole process of creating wine, only members of the owners’ family – Basia, Marcin and son Piotr – work with it. One of the key foundations of our high-quality wines is the traditional, natural way of producing them, and in particular the fact that the vinification respects the natural balance of properly ripe and healthy fruit.

Winemakers and owners: Barbara and Marcin Płochoccy – founding members of the Sandomierz Winemakers’ Association, members of the Sandomierz Wine Route, members of the Świętokrzyskie Culinary Heritage network, Świętokrzyska Kuźnia Smaków first generation winemakers, extreme enthusiasts and great lovers of grapevine and wine.

Spotkaniówka Vineyard was established in 2006. Its area is fruitful 1.35 ha, and it is located at an altitude of about 320 m above sea level. The winery is a family business, which allows exceptional standards to be maintained when creating wine. We certify both varieties and vintages, because we believe that for enthusiasts, knowledge about the variety and vintages is very important. We grow 7 varieties of vines in the vineyard. They are: Bianca, Seyval Blanc, Hibernal and Souvgnier Gris for white wines, and Rondo, Regent and Cabernet Cortis for red wines. Such number of varieties allows for the creation of various wine variations, including the flagship wine Cuvee Polomia which is a blend of red wines.

The adopted formula of our wines is the sale on the vineyard and outside it in specialized wine bar shops, restaurants and hotels, i.e. in places where the wines are not anonymous and the people recommending them are experts.

The vineyard also offers guests a year-round wine cottage (up to 6 people) as well as vineyard tours and wine tasting.

We cordially invite you and recommend our wines, which we create with heart and passion.

The establishment of the vineyard and the development of wine-growing in the Sandomierz region are associated with the arrival of the Dominicans in 1226. In fulfilling their apostolic functions, such as the proclamation of the Word of God and the liturgical apostolate, they established a vineyard on the territory of their estates. Its dynamic development is evidenced by the receipt in 1238 of the commercial certificate of the Dukes of Piast for the distribution of wine in Europe, which was confirmed by Prince Leszek the Black.

Dominikańska Vineyard was established on May 8, 2012. On an area of 10 ares, shrubs of the following varieties were planted: ‘Bianka’, ‘Alden’, ‘Einset Seedless’, ‘Seyve Villard’, ‘Muscat Odeskij’, ‘Iza’, ‘Russian Concord’, ‘Aurora’ and ‘Rondo’. The vineyard was founded with the support of several local government units: the Sandomierski Scientific Society, the City Hall, the State Higher Vocational School in Sandomierz and the School Complex in Mokoszyn.

There are plans to enlarge the vineyard area with processing varieties. We hope that the wines made from our own fruit will fill the cellar of the monastery and will be used in the liturgy of the Holy Mass.
