“Swimming in natural water is a delight to our sences. Your skin and hair feels soft and your eyes don’t sting. It seems as if, every cell in your body is telling you – this is the way swimming should be.” David Pagan Butler A Natural Swimming Pool is swimming pool that has clear water without using chemicals. These pools rely entirely on the plants and animals to condition the water. This is so effective that this pool has been tested and shown to be of drinking water quality. Also, through the continual natural “cleaning process” the pool water never needs changing, saving water. Chemical free so it is healthy for people and wildlife. Wild Swimming at home.

United Kingdom

Glyn and his friends and family make their own organic pool but have a couple of disheartening setbacks along the way. After a rethink they recover to make a wonderful pool. This is their story.
A recent trip to the north west of Scotland to advise on a pool led me to some unexpected delights; Coral beaches, Fairy Pools and a Castle that almost featured in Game of Thrones – not to mention the contribution to moon colonisation.

Georgia, USA

David Pagan Butler explains how a DIY pool in Georgia, USA was made – zero build, with only sculpted earth walls and his bubble flow circulation system. This pool was made by Alan Hall with the help of his family and friends (and moral support from David) and is an inspiration for those who aspire to create a beautiful, chemical free pool for swimming and a precious habitat for wildlife. Have a look at Alan’s moving film of the project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHssU… and a dragonfly laying eggs on watercress https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lbTU…

Island of Ometepe, Niceragua

On the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua is the location for this stunning Organic Pool. And it’s the only pool of its kind in the whole country! This DIY pool was made by Cris Ketch (with helpers) following the bubble powered Organic Pools method created by David Pagan Butler. Cris adapted the design and materials to suit this tropical location.
Mountain Beach, Gaschurn, Austria is probably the largest organic/natural pool in the world, if not the most exciting. David Pagan Butler was invited to take a look and show how this pool works. Without the use of chemical disinfectants this pool can accommodate over a thousand visitors a day. The water quality is so high it is recommended by doctors. Heinrich Sandrell, the former Burgermeister, was the powerhouse behind the project and the pool was constructed by Biotop, Austria. It has two pools on different levels connected with a stream you can raft down. An Alpine summertime water wonderland.
